One of Michigan football’s top 2023 commitments in the 2023 recruiting class, Enow Etta, took a recent visit to TCU. Is there a reason to be worried?

Things have been picking up for Michigan football recruiting in the 2023 recruiting class and last week, the Wolverines did land a 2023 commitment from Kendrick Bell.

Bell is the younger brother of Ronnie Bell and he’s got the ability to play quarterback, wide receiver, or maybe even defensive back.

That’s an interesting thought because Michigan football doesn’t have a defensive back committed in the 2023 class and that’s something to monitor going forward.

The Wolverines have been expanding the board, but before we get to that, something else to monitor is the commitment of four-star EDGE Enow Etta.

Etta is 6-foot-4, 260 pounds and is the No. 112 prospect overall in the 2023 recruiting class according to the 247 sports composite rankings. He’s arguably the top commitment in the class and Michigan beat out Michigan State to win it.

Now, Etta has taken a visit to TCU according to a recent report from EJ Holland of The Wolverine. Holland doesn’t think there is much to worry about, but anytime one of your top commitments is visiting another school, it at least gives you something to think about.

Etta does seem solid though and the Wolverines have gone a great job in his recruitment. He’s also been recruiting other prospects so the concern level is low. Yet, TCU is having a great season and is closer to home, so you never know.

As I said, it’s something to monitor.

Another 2023 DB to know

Over the weekend, Michigan football officially missed out on four-star cornerback Chris Peal, who committed to Georgia.

It seems like the Wolverines finished second, however it was still disappointing, especially because Michigan doesn’t have a defensive back committed yet.

Michigan added some really good corners in the 2022 class in Will Johnson, Kody Jones, and Myles Pollard. So it’s not a desperate situation. But U-M needs some commitments at the position and with signing day less than two months away, Shawn Russ is emerging in 2023.

Russ is 6-foot-2, 185 pounds and is ranked No. 457 overall in the 247 sports composite rankings. According to Holland, Russ is viewed by Michigan as a guy who can play cornerback or safety, and Steve Clinkscale is making a renewed push for a commitment.

Russ is going to visit for the Illinois game on November 19th. Florida State and Louisville are also listed as “warm” according to 247 sports but Holland said that Florida State has dropped out, so if Michigan wants Russ as part of the 2023 class, Louisville seems like the top contender.

So it feels like a slam dunk for the Wolverines. Jyaire Hill is obviously another really important name for the 2023 class. He’s been a priority but is still strongly considering Illinois and even if Hill does commit, Michigan could use multiple commitments in the secondary in 2023.
