Michigan football has five games left in the regular season and here are five bold predictions for the Wolverines for the second half of the season.

The first seven games of the 2022 Michigan football season couldn’t have gone better for the Wolverines. J.J. McCarthy has taken over as the starter and the defense has been better than advertised.

There are still questions about the Wolverines but they have answered every question so far. Michigan football won back-to-back road games with its sophomore quarterback and dominated Penn State in a top-10 showdown.

People didn’t really believe Jim Harbaugh when he said the defense could be as good or better this season as it was a year ago, but he’s been proven right.

The big test comes at the end of the season against Ohio State. Michigan still has four more games to get through before the Buckeyes starting on Saturday with Michigan State.

With that in mind, here are five bold predictions for the stretch run.

J.J. McCarthy will throw 20 total touchdowns

Through six starts, McCarthy has nine touchdown passes. He’s leading college football in completion percentage, is averaging nine yards per attempt, and leading a passing offense that’s averaging 231 yards per game.

Blake Corum and the running game has been so good that McCarthy has been more of a really talented game manager than anything else. He’s had his moments, such as the Indiana game where he threw for 300 yards, but mostly he’s taken care of the ball and picked his moments to make key plays.

His yardage numbers this season might never wow people because, with this running game, he’s probably not going to throw 30-40 times per game. But at some point, he’s going to start hitting some of the deep shots and the play-action passing game will open up.

I feel a big game coming against the Spartans and it’s my prediction he gets close to 2,500 yards passing and throws 20 touchdown passes by the end of the regular season, which would be a little over two per game down the stretch.
