In a game that wasn’t nearly as close as the score indicated as Michigan football dominated Penn State and proved it has the best running game in America.

If some team wants to take the Big Ten championship away from Michigan football, it’s going to have to figure out how to stop the Wolverines’ run game.

I had a good idea that Michigan football was going to run the ball well against Penn State. I felt the Wolverines’ offensive line was better and U-M would win the battle of strengths (run offense versus run defense) but no one could have predicted 418 yards on the ground.

The two long touchdown runs from Donovan Edwards and Blake Corum changed the game. Michigan controlled the first half, despite leading just 16-14 and allowing just one first down while racking up 19.

Penn State even took the lead in the third quarter, 17-16, making it the first time Michigan football has trailed all year in the second half. With J.J. McCarthy looking a little shaky, Donovan Edwards ripped off a 67-yard touchdown run and Michigan never looked back.

The next U-M had the ball, Blake Corum went 61 yards to the house. By then, you could sense it was over — and the defense slammed the door.

Penn State managed just three points in the second half and the pass rush wreaked havoc. Outside of the long run by Sean Clifford, the Nittany Lions didn’t even have 50 yards rushing.

Edwards capped the win after another long run by the sophomore that set up a touchdown and Michigan football won while barely throwing in the second half (sort of like Ohio State in 2021).

It was impressive and should erase any doubt about what this Michigan football team is capable of this season. It wasn’t a perfect performance, yet it was an absolute domination.

Gut Reactions to Michigan Football’s win over Penn State

  • The offensive is going to win the Joe Mooe Award again and it should.
  • Michigan has nearly 600 yards rushing combined against Penn State/Iowa.
  • Blake Corum is a serious Heisman Contender.
  • The 61-yard touchdown was the moment he’s been missing.
  • Not only is the O-line the best in college football — the RB tandem is too.
  • J.J. McCarthy was shaky at times but money when it mattered.
  • The QBs legs were a big factor too. That first down run was huge in the third quarter. If he doesn’t get it, Michigan maybe punts down one.
  • Speaking of, Brad Robbins may hit the transfer portal due to a lack of playing time.
  • Time for critics to shut the hell up about the schedule.
  • Without one busted run and a pick-six, Penn State doesn’t find the end zone.
  • That tells you something about this defense.
  • Penn State got embarrassed in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
  • This should have been 50-10. The 24-point margin was fortunate.
  • James Franklin is a clown and Harbaugh owns him.
  • All five stars are doing five-star things (JJ, Donovan, Will).
  • Donovan Edwards is a superstar.
  • If you don’t love Harbaugh ball, something is wrong with you.
  • Enjoy the bye.
  • BRING ON THE SPARTANS!
