Program all-time statistics

Michigan and Penn State are both considered royalty in the college football world. Michigan’s success has lasted long enough that the Wolverines are unarguably one of very few college football “blue blood” programs, and Penn State is knocking on that door as well. While PSU may not be a definite blue blood, the Lions are absolutely in that conversation.

Penn State and Michigan football are both top-10 in many categories, such as the following:

  • All-time record
  • All-time wins
  • NFL Draft picks
  • Weeks in AP Poll

Michigan

The Michigan Wolverines are one of college football’s few blue bloods and have a rich tradition when it comes to football. Michigan has claimed 11 national titles throughout its history, most recently winning one in 1997.

The Wolverines are home to 85 consensus All-Americans, three Heisman winners, 392 NFL Draft picks, and have been ranked in the AP poll for 894 weeks. On top of that, Michigan has won 43 Big Ten titles — most recently in 2021. Michigan football is also the winningest FBS program of all time with 982 total wins.

Penn State

Like Michigan, Penn State University carries a rich tradition of football on its campus. Penn State claims 914 wins all-time (7th) and has won two national titles in program history — most recently in 1986. The Nittany Lions have four Big Ten titles, most recently in 2016, and are home to the infamous “White Out” game.

Penn State has 43 consensus All-Americans, one Heisman winner, 375 NFL Draft picks and has spent 670 weeks in the AP poll. It is worth noting that Penn State is 30-17-2 in bowl games, which is good enough for 9th place all-time in bowl record. For comparison, Michigan is 21-28, which is 70th.
