Corum is carrying a heavy load

The fact that Michigan football was able to limit Blake Corum’s touches in the first three games of the season is looking fortunate now because he’s now gone three straight weeks with at least 25 rushing attempts.

Fans wondered how Michigan would replace Hassan Haskins in short-yardage situations and the answer is Corum. With most things in the Michigan backfield, the answer is giving the ball to Blake Corum and he’s delivered.

Saturday was his third consecutive 100-yard game as he turned those 25 carries into 124 yards. His 50-yard touchdown in the first quarter was a thing of beauty. He also had a killer juke in the fourth quarter.

Corum is as good as it gets in terms of college football running backs but you wonder if he can continue to carry it 25 times a week? The man is built and he take the punishment, but Donovan Edwards needs to get going. He had just seven carries for 15 yards and hasn’t developed into that No. 2 option yet, although his injury sure didn’t help.

The good news is that a bye week approaches because, after the Penn State game, you can bet Corum is going to need a week off.
