Five-star defensive lineman Daevin Hobbs took a visit to Michigan football over the weekend and here’s a look at the Wolverines’ chances.

The focus over the weekend for Michigan football fans is what happened on the field and in Iowa City, the Wolverines scored an impressive 27-14 win over Iowa.

Some fans still aren’t happy and some pundits are still saying Michigan football is winning impressively enough but who cares? 5-0 is 5-0.

The objective is to be playing for the Big Ten East title in Columbus. As long as that happens, the how or the why don’t matter one bit.

Speaking of Ohio State, Michigan football is battling the Buckeyes and some other big-name programs for five-star defensive lineman Daevin Hobbs.

Hobbs is ranked as the No. 23 overall prospect by On3 but in the On3 consensus rankings, he is ranked 124th overall out of Concord, North Carolina. The Tar Heels are the leader right now according to the On3 prediction machine but Alabama, Georgia, and others are in the mix.

Michigan and Ohio State are on the list to get official visits but Hobbs visited both Big Ten programs over the weekend for unofficial visits. According to Chad Simmons of On3.com, the visits went well (subscription required).

Where Michigan football stands in this recruitment

You can see maybe why North Carolina is starting to fade in this recruitment. The Tar Heels, Auburn, and Tennessee have all gotten official visits. Georgia and Bama are upcoming and it looks like the Crimson Tide could pull ahead.

Hobbs said he was impressed with the way Michigan uses its defensive ends and it would be hard not to be. The Wolverines have produced a bunch of first-round or early-round edge rushers and that’s going to start benefiting them even more on the recruiting trail.

The Wolverines do appear to have some momentum. We’ll see where that leads but winning (being 5-0 and ranked No. 4) always helps on the recruiting trail and it’s happening again.

Michigan closed incredibly strong during the 2022 recruiting cycle and it seems like they could be poised to have a similar finish in 2023. Just like last year, a bunch of head coaches have already been fired and I promise more will be before the end of the season.

dark. Next. 5 things we learned in win over Iowa

The Wolverines will get their chances. They just have to take advantage of them.
