Michigan football went on the road and posted a huge win over Iowa. Here are the highlights as well as our gut reactions.

Coming into the Iowa game, there were a few lingering questions about the Michigan football team. One was J.J. McCarthy and how he would perform, on the road, in a big game.

Another was the offensive line and whether it could recapture the magic of last season. Primarily, there have been questions about the pass rush and on Saturday, in a 27-14 win, Michigan football answered all three questions.

McCarthy wasn’t spectacular but he was efficient. McCarthy completed 18-of-24 passes for 155 yards. He did have a fumble that killed some momentum, however, he was very composed and while he needs to connect on some deep balls, he made plenty of plays.

The 29-yard dime to Andrel Anthony was one. The scramble and touchdown pass to Donovan Edwards is another. If McCarthy doesn’t make that play, the Wolverines settle for a field goal and it’s a different game.

McCarthy never flinched. Neither did the offensive line which helped Blake Corum rush 29 times for 133 yards and a touchdown. The offensive ran for over 170 yards and possessed the ball for 33 minutes.

The Wolverines notched four sacks and got two on the Iowa drive that decided the game. It was 20-7 and Iowa could have made it scary with a touchdown.

Instead, Mike Morris and Eyabi Okie shut the door. Corum also helped with this TD.

  • Eyabi Okie helped. More of him, please.
  • Blake Corum is a superstar. He answered the short-yardage question.
  • Kudos to the offensive line. They were elite.
  • J.J. McCarthy was controlled and he had a couple of special plays, as well as one mistake (if you can call a forced fumble that).
  • Kind of worried about hitting the deep ball. Gotta get that fixed.
  • Remember when the 3-star crowd hated Mason Graham? Michigan seems to know what it is doing in terms of recruiting and developing. Stop complaining and enjoy.
  • This was a big win. Don’t let anyone say differently.
  • Don’t forget about Donovan Edwards and Ronnie Bell.
  • Iowa allowed five points a game coming in. Michigan scored 27 — three touchdowns.
  • Put the schedule talk to bed. Beating Iowa at Iowa isn’t easy.
