Gut reactions from Michigan football and Maryland as Blake Corum took over in the second half for the Wolverines.

Things didn’t necessarily go as planned for Michigan football in the first half. In fact, outside of recovering a fumble on the first play and a Blake Corum touchdown on one of the last plays of the half, not much went right for the Wolverines.

Still, Michigan football found a way to make enough plays to grab the lead at halftime, thanks to Blake Corum and 132 yards in the first half. His touchdown run right before the half was a huge momentum swing and the Wolverines never trailed again in the 34-27 win.

The defense stood up in the second half and came up with an interception up 27-19. Corum took one to the house soon after and that was the final dagger.

That run got Corum up to 243 yards on 31 carries. It was a 43-yard run and after not seeing many explosive runs this season, Michigan’s offense looked like 2021 when it needed to and McCarthy despite nearly throwing an interception in the red zone, was accurate and much more under control when it mattered.

There are going to be growing pains. Winning while they happen is the most important and thing and the Wolverines did just that.

Gut reactions to Michigan football win over Maryland

  • J.J. McCarthy’s inexperience showed. But he did enough to win.
  • Blake Corum is the real Heisman contender on this team. He carried the offense.
  • The pass rush got better but needs to improve. Playing Eyabi Okie more will help.
  • Derrick Moore needs to play more too.
  • Mike Morris and Mazi are as good as advertised.
  • DJ Turner was elite.
  • Iowa is going to be a huge challenge.
  • This feels like Rutgers a year ago. Lessons will be learned but a win is a win.
  • The non-conference schedule didn’t do this team any favors.
  • This team has a lot to prove but still believe it’s good enough to win the Big Ten.
  • Go Blue!
