Sacks and turnovers

Michigan football has been outstanding on defense so far this season. The Wolverines are allowing 192 total yards and 5.4 points per game.

Of course, we all know the competition wasn’t a huge challenge and in some ways, there are some concerns such as the Wolverines notching just eight sacks and three takeaways.

The bottom line is that part of that had to do with the blowout fashion of all the wins. Michigan was rotating guys heavily and that’s going to impact the production of sacks and turnovers a bit.

The QB pressure hasn’t been bad and even though Michigan just had one sack the past two games, Hawaii and UConn looked anything but comfortable in the pocket. That being said, neither of those teams had weapons like Maryland or offensive linemen of the same quality.

Taking away the football is easier to do when you are pressuring the quarterback. It goes hand in hand. But this week, the secondary is going to get some chances and so will the pass rush and I think they’ll deliver.

I’m going to predict three sacks for the defense (and a forced fumble) as well as at least one interception. My guts says Michigan football might get two.

Either way, the Wolverines will win the turnover battle and if that happens, you can just about guarantee they are going to win the game.
