New Michigan football starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy announced he will donate NIL proceeds to his offensive line and charity organizations.

For as good as Michigan football quarterback J.J McCarthy is on the field, the new starting quarterback might be even better off of it. It was announced on Tuesday that McCarthy will donate 100% of NIL apparel sales to his offensive line and charity organizations.

The deal through the University of Michigan apparel store, The M Den, sees proceeds from certain items dispersed between the Michigan football offensive line and McCarthy’s charity organization.

Sales from McCarthy’s jersey and jersey t-shirts will go to the offensive line, while all other appeal sales will go towards the JJ For the Kids foundation.

JJ For the Kids supports a number of children’s hospitals across the country. Originally started after an interaction with a young fan, McCarthy’s foundation was founded “as a way to make a difference in the lives of kids in my communities, in the Chicagoland area and in Ann Arbor.” The foundation has branched out to also support the ChadTough and Oxford Strong foundations.

As of January 21st, 2022 the foundation had already donated more than $11,000 to children’s hospitals across the country.

For as well as the Wolverines played on Saturday night, it’s only fitting that McCarthy would donate to the offensive line. The offensive line gave up zero sacks on their new starting QB and helped contribute to the Wolverines’ 580 total yards.

It’s easy to like Michigan football QB J.J. McCarthy

It’s tradition for quarterbacks to spoil their offensive lines after big games to reward the big guys up front. With the announcement that McCarthy will be the starting quarterback moving forward, the offensive line can expect some more money to come their way as jersey sales increase.

The donation to charity follows a new culture for the Michigan football team. Running back Blake Corum famously donated turkeys to local families last year ahead of the Ohio State game and head coach Jim Harbaugh donated bonus money from the 2021 season to Michigan athletics employees who saw pay cuts during the pandemic.

Regardless of his continued excellence on the football field, it’s McCarthy’s actions off the field truly exemplify what it means to be a Michigan Man.
