J.J. McCarthy is going to make his first career start for Michigan football on Saturday against Hawaii and here are five predictions for the Wolverines.

While it may be true that playing Hawaii doesn’t invoke the same feelings as some of the opponents on the Michigan football schedule this season, there is one reason to be excited about this matchup: J.J. McCarthy.

The former five-star recruit is making his first career start and many are anticipating that it will put an end to the Michigan football quarterback competition.

Cade McNamara got his chance last week and he was disappointing. He also made some comments in the media he might like to have back, but it wasn’t a great look for a team captain.

I’m sure he knows that and I expect him to act like a leader on Saturday. He’ll also get his chances on the field and maybe as the backup, he won’t feel as much pressure.

Cade is a good quarterback. But he’s not J.J. McCarthy who is just special. He’s a special player. He’s a special person and after Saturday night, he’s going to be the full-time starter. That’s my opinion.

Here are my five predictions.

J.J. has 300 total yards and 5 Tds

McCarthy is going to take advantage of this opportunity. Outside of the fumble against MSU, when has he not played well? He was the best offensive player on the field against Georgia and if he had played from the start, Michigan might have stood a chance.

As long as he avoids mistakes (and his great plays make it worth it) he’s going to be hard to beat out. He’s got a better arm and is in a different universe as an athlete.

Remember, this is Michigan football. You have to be really, really good to play and while Cade is stellar, he’s not McCarthy who will put all the tools on display. He’ll get 300 (total yards) and five total touchdowns.
