After a monstrous performance in a win against Colorado State, Michigan opens as 51.5-point favorites against Hawaii according to FanDuel. The Wolverines covered the 30-point spread in their first outing against Colorado State with a final score of 51-7.

Despite punting on their first possession, Michigan football and the offense looked solid. Week one starter Cade McNamara finished with 131 yards, one touchdown, and completed 50% of his passes. While McNamara didn’t lose the job with his play, he didn’t win it either.

JJ McCarthy seems to be the reason why Michigan opens as such a favorite. In limited time as a backup, McCarthy only passed for 30 yards but rushed for 50 and a touchdown. McCarthy is set to start week two and brings a different element to the Michigan offense.

The offense should have another high-scoring day next weekend back at the Big House. Both quarterbacks will come out hungry to prove why they deserve the starting job.

McCarthy wants to build on the success from week one and prove he’s more than just a rushing threat, while McNamara wants to improve upon an average performance and show he’s still the starter of this team.

The Wolverines can also expect a big day on the defensive side of the ball. Big contributions from Junior Colson, Rod Moore, and DJ Turner held Colorado State to only seven points. Colson leads the team with 10 total tackles. Defensive backs Rod Moore and DJ Turner both finished with a pair of turnovers as Moore finished with Michigan’s only interception and Turner recovered a fumble for a touchdown.

Michigan football is a good bet against Hawaii

As for their opponent, the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors might be one of the worst in college football. Hawaii has given up 112 points in their first two games against equally poor teams. On offense, Hawaii has only scored 17 and 10 points respectively through their first two.

Anything can happen, but Michigan bettors can be fairly certain that their Wolverines will cover or at least come close to covering the 51.5-point spread. Between an intense quarterback battle, a hungry defense, and a bad opponent, it seems Michigan is the safe bet next weekend.
