5 reasons to be wildly optimistic about Michigan Football in 2022
The Michigan football season is just a few days away and here are five reasons to be optimistic about the Wolverines going into 2022.
When it comes to the 2022 Michigan football team, I can honestly say I’ve never been more excited about the Wolverines than this year.
To preface, I’ve only been alive since 1986, and the first Michigan football team I can really remember following was around 1992 or 1993. The Tyrone Wheatley days.
I remember Michigan winning the Rose Bowl. But in the years that followed, despite some really good teams, even the national championship team, none made me feel as confident as this one.
Maybe it’s not a coincidence that the two best seasons for Michigan over the past 25 years have come when not much was expected. Michigan was ranked 14th in 1997 and not ranked at all in 2021. This year the Wolverines are sixth or eighth or whatever.
I honestly don’t care. I just know what I see is giving me extreme optimism about this team and here are five reasons why.
The jackhammer is back
I’m going to get to the QB situation. That’s a huge reason for optimism, even though people are kind of freaking out about it. But the biggest reason is Jim Harbaugh.
I don’t care that he flirted with the NFL. He’s back. He signed a long-term deal and I don’t think he’s leaving. Hopefully, he coaches here for the rest of his career.
But I have a feeling Michigan football is about to go on a great run. Harbaugh predicted as much when he said “This is just the beginning” last year and looking at this team, he could be right.
The future is brighter than its been since Bo was the head coach and I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say the next few seasons could be among the best in modern Michigan football history.
Everyone doubted Harbaugh and lots of people still do. And for a while, he wasn’t the same guy. I don’t know what happened or what changed but this is what Michigan football was supposed to look like under Jim Harbaugh and I don’t see this team taking a step back.
Harbaugh is confident. It’s why I believe he’s being more open about his QBs and his depth chart. He’s saying this is a championship team and I love it. He’s made a believer out of me, just as he did in his locker room.
Michigan had a culture problem at one time. It doesn’t anymore and the next few seasons, including this one, are going to be fun.
Now, to the quarterbacks.
