Michigan Football: Why another visit for 5-star QB Jadyn Davis is huge
Michigan football is doing its best to land elite 2024 quarterback Jadyn Davis who is expected to make a third visit to Ann Arbor since June.
You have to like where Michigan football stands in the recruitment of five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis, who visited campus twice over the summer.
While CJ Carr, who eventually committed to Notre Dame, was visiting the Irish, Davis was on campus in Ann Arbor in June and got projected to the Wolverines by experts from Rivals that very weekend.
Prior to another visit over the summer to the Michigan football recruiting BBQ, Davis was projected to the Wolverines by EJ Holland of The Wolverine. There haven’t been any other projections and there aren’t any crystal balls predicting Davis to land anywhere just yet but Michigan football is still considered by most to be the favorite.
The On3 prediction machine, which weighs expert predictions and also visits and other things like that, gives Michigan a 79-percent chance of winning his commitment.
And the latest reporting from Holland (subscription required) should reinforce that confidence level as he is reporting that Davis will take his third visit to Michigan for the Hawaii game on Sep. 10, which is good for Michigan football on multiple levels.
Why Michigan football fans should feel optimistic
The Wolverines have to prove they can close, because let’s be honest, they were in the lead at one point with Dante Moore and Carr, at least according to the prediction machine and some crystal balls in the case of CJ Carr.
But getting Davis on campus for the third time since June it’s huge. It’s really hard to overstate how important that is for the Wolverines. North Carolina, Clemson, and Georgia are all in the mix.
Davis has also visited Clemson and North Carolina two times since March and if he makes it back to those schools this fall, that would show they are legitimate contenders.
But Michigan is in a strong spot with some of hits teammates and has strong ties to the Providence Day coaching staff through Jonathan Goodwin, a former Wolverine, who’s son is a teammate of Davis and has been projected to Michigan.
Now that we know J.J. McCarthy is going to start, that’s also a shrewd move. McCarthy is a big play waiting to happen and the offense should look explosive but Davis will also see a young quarterback getting rewarded early for exceptional play.
That could be a sign to Davis that if he plays well enough as a freshman, he could start or at least earn some spot playing time as McCarthy did last year and will get in 2022, even if he doesn’t become the full-time starter.
Either way, the Wolverines need to take advantage of their momentum with Davis. I wouldn’t expect a commitment soon, but another good visit could keep this thing moving towards a commitment for Michigan football.
