Jim Harbaugh reveals his plan for Michigan’s QB competition
Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh has announced that both Cade McNamara and J.J. McCarthy will start at least one game.
At long last, Jim Harbaugh finally revealed his cards about the Michigan football QB competition.
The fans and media have been wondering all year how the snaps were going to be split between JJ and Cade, as both were said to be neck-and-neck in the quarterback battle.
Well, it has since been revealed that Jim Harbaugh will do a committee approach, and go from there. Here is what he said about the QB battle, which will continue:
"Coming out of camp, I just feel like we have two quarterbacks, Cade McNamara and JJ McCarthy, that we feel very confident that we can win a champion with either of those two behind center. So, we’re not ready to say who that starting quarterback is, but the decision we made is Cade McNamara will start the opener against Colorado State, and JJ McCarthy will start the second ball game against Hawaii, and then after week two we will make a decision going into week three on the starter and backup."
What to make of Harbaugh’s announcement
So there you have it, folks. Those on the Team Cade train will root for him against Colorado State and those on the Team JJ train will root for him against Hawaii.
The only thing the tweet doesn’t tell us is what will determine the starter. Will it be how many touchdowns the QBs have? The TD to INT ratio? The most passing yards? The higher passer rating?
I’m not sure about all of that but this is fascinating to watch play out, and I was honestly surprised that Harbaugh let the cat out of the bag and talked about the evaluation process this openly.
This season’s opener (and the following game) just got even more exciting!
