Donovan Edwards had 174 yards rushing and three rushing touchdowns in 2021. Can he come into this year and lead Michigan football in rushing touchdowns, while surpassing 900 yards rushing?

Last season Mr. Edwards torched Maryland for 170 yards receiving and a touchdown. It was a preview of the future for Michigan football, a glimpse of potentially seeing Hassan Haskins’s replacement. He looked poised and was not nervous under the bright lights. He displayed breathtaking speed while averaging 17 yards a catch that game. He capitalized on his opportunity when thrust into game action.

That Maryland match-up would be his best game of the season. To his credit, he would later throw a 75-yard touchdown versus Iowa in the Big Ten championship while adding another rushing score. Because the depth chart had elite running backs in front of him, coincided with Edwards being a freshman on a top-four nationally ranked team after defeating Iowa; he played limited snaps last season.

The 2022 Michigan football season is nearly upon us, and the impact Edwards can make will be scintillating. One of the best things about first-year players is that they become sophomores.

Experience helps growth, intelligence, and seeing the field from a different perspective. His pass blocking alongside acknowledging in-game assignments will improve dramatically with his maturity this year.

Why Michigan Football’s Donovan Edwards is so dangerous

Donovan Edwards has the traits of a complete running back. He can run up the middle for tough yards or push outside. He can run routes from any position on the field. His agility can blow past defenders whereas his lower body power allows the pick-up of yards after contact.

Instincts and athletic build separate good running backs from outstanding backs at the position. Having a runner that is a dynamic threat to score regardless of where he’s located on the field; creates headaches for the opposition. Donovan Edwards exhibits speed, elusiveness, and cutback vision; those characteristics personify an efficient force when he touches the ball.

We all know that Blake Corum will score a lot of touchdowns. He will amass a significant amount of touches and rushing yards for the Wolverines this year.

With Corum’s compact frame stature, the backfield should split opportunities. Not only does Edwards have the chance to accumulate double-digit touchdowns, but he can also achieve over 900 yards rushing.
