Michigan Football: Positive news on Chris Peal and Jadyn Davis
Michigan football appears to be gaining momentum with a number of Providence Day recruits and here’s the latest on Jadyn Davis and Chris Peal.
If you haven’t seen the highlights yet, Michigan football recruiting target Jadyn Davis tore it up on Friday in his season opener.
He led his team to a 42-7 win and in the process, threw touchdown passes to three different Michigan football targets in Jordan Shipp, Channing Goodwin, and Chris Peal.
Peal is being recruited as a cornerback in the 2023 class, so it’s not likely Davis will be throwing passes to him as a Wolverine. However, the two other is a different story.
Goodwin, who is the son of former Wolverine Jonathan Goodwin, has already received expert projections to the Wolverines. He’s part of the 2024 class. Shipp might be the next and it’s possible that both wideouts join their quarterback in Ann Arbor, if U-M can pull that off.
Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider made the trip for the game and he had some positive reports (subscription required). Maybe the most significant thing Davis told him was that he was going to visit again this fall (which isn’t new) but also that he’d like to make a decision after his high school season.
Davis essentially said he’s getting sick of recruiting and if the five-star QB in the 2024 class is making a decision soon after taking a third visit to Michigan, that’s a really good sign.
If the Wolverines play well in 2022 and get elite play from their quarterbacks, which I expect, that could entice Davis even more. He’s interested in NFL development and if Jim Harbaugh shows he can develop two NFL-caliber QBs at the same time in Cade McNamara and J.J. McCarthy that certainly can’t hurt Michigan’s chances.
The Wolverines are the current leader and have a 79 percent chance to win his commitment according to the On3 prediction machine for 2024’s No. 2 QB, but nothing is a sure thing in recruiting until you get a commitment and a signature.
Still, Jim Harbaugh, and Matt Weiss are going a great job here.
Michigan football trending up with four-star Chris Peal
The Wolverines don’t have a cornerback committed in the 2023 class yet and Peal would be a great place to start. He visited Ann Arbor for the recruiting BBQ and according to EJ Holland is going to take his final official visit to Michigan.
Georgia was the favorite for Peal but the Bulldogs aren’t getting another visit as he said he will visit North Carolina State and South Carolina before making a decision. It’s worth noting he also visited NC State unofficially right before coming to Michigan’s BBQ. I’d worry about them most.
Peal is ranked 187th overall according to the On3 consensus rankings and if Georgia doesn’t push and it doesn’t look like the Bulldogs are still a factor, I feel good about Michigan’s chances.
