Michigan Football: Breaking down commitment of TE Zack Marshall
Michigan football landed its 14th commitment in the 2023 recruiting class and here are some thoughts on three-star tight end Zack Marshall.
The Wolverines have been building momentum on the recruiting trail since the start of July and it continued on Saturday with the commitment of tight end Zack Marshall.
Things have moved quickly with Marshall, who is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound tight end out of Carlsbad, California. Utah, Arizona, and Cal were among the favorites until Michigan football got involved.
The Wolverines hosted him for the recruiting BBQ and an unofficial visit. During that trip, he was offered by the coaching staff and some exert projections followed soon after.
From there, Marshall talked about taking some official visits in the fall. However, earlier this week, he announced his commitment date for Saturday, and after his recent visit to Michigan football, it seemed pretty clear which way he was leaning.
What Michigan football is getting in Zack Marshall
A prolific pass catcher. That’s how he was described by Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports and for good reason. Marshall caught 44 passes and had over 1,000 yards receiving as well as nine touchdowns as a junior in high school.
Marshall is a three-star recruit and is ranked No. 684 right now in the 247 sports composite rankings. That’s the third-lowest in the class overall and second among position players. (Michigan has a three-star kicker committed).
But there are plenty of times when Michigan football gets a commitment and the kids ranking shoots up. Just look at Aymeric Koumba. The guy was testing like David Ojabo already and he’s now ranked in the 700s.
Koumba is Michigan football’s lowest-rated commitment that is not a special-teams player and I feel really good about that because he’s going to be a stud. I feel good about Marshall too. He’s a productive player and if he has another 1,000-yard season, his ranking will likely improve.
Beyond all that, this staff has proven it can evaluate talent and so I’m all for this commitment. Michigan’s tight end room is among the most talented in the country this season and that’s not going to change in the coming years.
