Junior Colson is rushing the passer more

I’ve always been really high on the potential of Junior Colson and I’ve been on record many times saying I believe he’ll end up being a first-round pick.

Colson is just the total package. He’s 6-foot-2, 235 pounds and he runs the 40-yard dash in about 4.5 seconds and that was back when he was a recruit. He’s always been fast and athletic. He even returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown in high school.

Another thing he did in high school was sack the quarterback, a lot. Probably not because he’s an extremely skilled edge rusher but because he’s so freakish talented that he was extremely hard to block. Still, I’ve wanted Michigan to use him more as a blitzer.

It makes sense especially this season because with Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo gone, the Wolverines will need to manufacture pressure somehow and Colson is one way.

And it looks like I’ll get my wish according to what the Michigan football linebacker said this week.

"“I’m getting more opportunities to rush the quarterback. That’s a part of my game,” Colson said to On3. “I love rushing, I love getting back there. I just gotta keep bringing it. You’ll see me this year."

The sophomore also talked about how he’s more comfortable this season and sounds like a guy ready to take the second-year leap.

"“A lot more confident, a lot more poised in the defense,” Colson said on Friday. “I’m just understanding it more, memorizing it some more. I’m understanding concepts — like different coverages, what the O-line’s doing, guys behind me. It’s making the defense lot easier and a lot more fun.”"

Michigan football fans are excited about the potential breakout seasons of McCarthy, Donovan Edwards, and Andrel Anthony, but Colson is right there too.
