Former Michigan football star Aidan Hutchinson showed why he was picked No. 2 overall by the Detroit Lions in his NFL preseason debut.

We didn’t get to see a ton of former Michigan football superstar Aidan Hutchinson in his NFL debut for the Detroit Lions on Friday night, but we saw enough to get really excited.

At least if you’re a fan of the Lions. Even if you just follow Hutchinson since he used to be a Wolverine, he certainly looked like the same old Hutch as he was responsible for a tackle for loss in the first quarter after making a quick, instinctive play, making his blockers look foolish.

Hutchinson finished the game with two tackles and one tackle for loss. But he definitely looked the part and that was good to see. These games don’t really mean much but you always want a guy drafted No. 2 overall to impress and Hutchinson has done that.

Hutchinson even impressed with his singing and dancing skills earlier this week.

Another Michigan football alum shows out in Game one

Another former Michigan football player, Devin Funchess, also had some positive moments on Friday night as he is trying to make the 53-man roster as a tight end after skipping the 2020 season due to COVID-19 and missing last season because of injury.

Funchess caught four passes but one of those went for a touchdown. Funchess has always been supremely talented and he looked relatively healthy at this point.

If he can remain that way, he should be able to make the roster. The move back to tight end is interesting.

Funchess was a tight end to start with Michigan football, but then moved to wide receiver and that’s where he started in the NFL. He did have four seasons with at least 391 yards, so he’s produced before.

Either way, it’s good to have football back and some Wolverines making plays.
