Michigan football seems to be closing in on another commitment as tight end Zack Marshall will announce his decision this week.

Coming out of the recruiting BBQ, Michigan football built up some solid buzz with a number of 2024 recruiting targets, including five-star QB Jadyn Davis.

Davis has already said he will take another unofficial visit for a game in Ann Arbor this fall. So the BBQ seems to be successful and another visitor who made the trip for it seems to be on the verge of committing to the Wolverines this week.

That’s three-star tight end Zack Marshall of the 2023 class. At first, after his visit, he talked about coming back for an official visit this fall. Still, earlier this week, he announced that a decision would come on Friday between Michigan football, Utah, and Arizona.

Prior to that, Michigan was already receiving some expert projections for Marshall, but more came on board after the announcement. EJ Holland of The Wolverine put in an expert prediction and the On3 prediction machine gives the Wolverines a 99-percent chance to win this recruitment.

What it means for Michigan football

Marshall is ranked No. 682 overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings and has a similar ranking in the On3 consensus (688). However, there are lots of reasons to be excited about Marshall who is 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, and had more than 1,000 yards receiving as a junior.

He caught 44 passes for 1,012 yards and also scored nine touchdowns. He’s a guy that’s been getting more attention on the recruiting trail lately and to me, this would be another example of getting a guy some others are sleeping on (the Wolverines are great at evaluations).

Marshall is out of Carlsbad, California and it will be interesting to see what happens with his ranking over the course of his senior season but with another really productive campaign, I don’t see why he wouldn’t get a boost at some point.

He’s a solid athlete that also plays defense. But as a pass-catching tight end somewhat like Erick All, who also developed into a really solid blocker, there’s a lot to like about Marshall, assuming he commits to Michigan football on Friday, which is expected right now.
