Michigan football opened fall camp on Wednesday and here are five thoughts on the Wolverines as the 2022 season gets underway in earnest.

It’s hard not to be excited right now as a Michigan football fan, especially because the Wolverines are hitting the practice field Wednesday as the 2022 season gets closer and closer.

The battle for the starting quarterback job has been ongoing for months, but the final stretch will really get underway today as J.J. McCarthy attempts to push Cade McNamara for the starting job.

We’ll get to the QB battle and some of the other notable position battles on both sides of the ball. The expectations couldn’t be more different than they were a year ago, but that’s a good thing.

Jim Harbaugh has reset the expectation that Michigan football can win championships and should compete to win the Big Ten championship every single year.

So with that in mind, here are some thoughts and things we’ll be following as fall camp officially gets underway for Michigan football.

The QB Battle

Every Michigan fan is interested in the QB race and why not? The Wolverines have two legitimate starters and two of the best QBs in the Big Ten.

Cade McNamara was third-team All-Big Ten last season and led the Wolverines to a Big Ten title. So you can understand why he believes himself to be the starting QB.

J.J. McCarthy has the talent to be a superstar and he might eventually beat out Cade for the starting job, but I don’t think he will do it this fall and maybe even not during the 2022 season.
