The recruiting BBQ is going to be huge for Michigan football and another key target for the 2023 class is now expected to visit.

Michigan football needed to reset its offensive tackle recruiting board for the 2023 class after missing on some key targets in June and July.

Offensive line coach Sherrone Moore handed out some new offers and some new priorities have emerged and one of those is four-star tackle Caleb Lomu out of Gilbert, Arizona.

Lomu is ranked as a four-star prospect according to the On3 consensus rankings and is No. 202 overall. Yet, the 6-foot-5, 265-pounder is ranked in On3’s top 100.

Either way, Michigan football is desperately in need of offensive tackles in the 2023 class, and Lomu seems like an ideal target to push for.

And in some good news on that front, Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider is reporting that Lomu is going to be among the visitors in Ann Arbor this weekend for the recruiting BBQ.

This is a huge development for the Wolverines since they just extended an offer on July 1st. Here’s what the four-star tackle said about Michigan recently to Marich:

"“Me and Coach Moore were on a call and talking about my summer and the season and stuff, then we started talking about Michigan and that’s when he offered me,” Lomu told  The Michigan Insider. “When he did, I was very excited about it. I wasn’t expecting it, so it kind of came as a surprise, which was amazing. I’ve always been interested in Michigan. I like how they play. Coach Moore is an amazing coach and could improve me to my best!”"

Where Michigan football stands in this recruitment

Arizona is listed as the favorite according to the On3 prediction machine. Utah and California are in the mix too. Each of those schools got official visits over the summer, but with Lomu taking an unofficial visit to Michigan, it seems like the door is wide open in his recruitment.

Moore is an elite recruiter and he’s starting to get back into form after offensive line recruiting got off to a slow start. The addition of Amir Herring was huge and much of it had to do with Moore’s push at the end.

Now, it’s time to impress Lomu this weekend and get him back for an official visit this fall. If that happens, Michigan football should have a great chance of coming away with a commitment.
