Blake Corum on the watch list for major awards heading into 2022

Michigan football running back Blake Corum will be a huge contributor for the Wolverines. Corum is an early candidate for the Doak Walker Award.
Michigan football running back Blake Corum is poised for another monster season in Ann Arbor. As a result, Corum has been named to the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker Award, given to the best running back in college football.
Corum was one of nine players from the Big Ten selected to the candidate list. The award, presented by Southern Methodist University, is given to the nations best running back to recognize “contributions on the field, achievement in the classroom, and citizenship in the community.”
Following the departure of Hassan Haskins to the NFL Draft, Blake Corum is expected to be Michigan’s feature running back. Corum, who split time at the position last season, rushed for 952 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 141 receiving yards.
Sophomore Donovan Edwards will serve as Corum’s counterpart providing the Wolverines with a similar two-running back dynamic as last season.
Corum could bring home multiple awards in 2022
Corum has proven himself on and off the field. In 2021 Corum used his first season of NIL money to donate 100 turkeys to local families ahead of Thanksgiving.
Five days later, Corum helped the Wolverines beat Ohio State in Ann Arbor, rushing for 87 yards. Based on award criteria, Corum certainly surpasses all standards.
The Doak Walker Award is one of many awards Corum could see in 2022. Per ESPN, Corum is also considered a potential Heisman Trophy contender this season.
While he isn’t the favorite, it’s not unreasonable to think Corum could put up Heisman-worthy numbers given he stays healthy.
Fellow Michigan football teammate Cade McNamara was also included on ESPN’s list under the designation of “The guys who were so good in 2021 they have to be in the mix.”
