Michigan football has landed five commitments in the month of July and more could be on the way as a top target sets a decision date.

We aren’t even halfway through the month of July and already Michigan football has added five verbal commitments to its 2023 recruiting class, four of which have been four-star prospects.

That’s a solid job by the Wolverines on the recruiting trail. The recent addition of Enow Etta was especially sweet as Michigan State battled tooth and nail for his commitment.

He’s a legit top-100 prospect according to 247 sports own rankings and is 125th overall in the 247 sports composite rankings. Aidan Hutchinson was ranked 112th in the same composite rankings back in 2018 and that worked out alright.

At any rate, Michigan football has some real momentum and with the recruiting BBQ coming up this month, the Wolverines have a legitimate chance to build on that.

One recruit who could be joining the mix relatively soon is three-star defensive lineman My’Keil Gardner, who is a top-500 prospect in the composite rankings (No. 424 via On3, 488 in 247).

He’s from Peoria, Arizona, and is listed as 6-foot-2, 275 pounds. Michigan likes to have defensive linemen capable of essentially playing as five techniques and three techniques and Gardner has that kind of potential. It will be interesting to see where his weight goes but he feels like he could play at 300 pounds pretty easily.

The Wolverines have been trending for crystal ball projections since his official visit in June and according to the On3 prediction machine, Michigan football has a 78-percent chance of winning out in this recruitment.

Oregon is also in the mix and he was there three times as opposed to one visit to Michigan. We also know the Ducks are more advanced on the NIL front, although the Wolverines have seemingly found a way to navigate NIL a little better judging by recent commitments.

Gardner has set a date for Aug. 3 and while a lot can change between now and then, he would be another top-500 commitment (a 4-star DT via On3) that would keep the Wolverines’ recruiting momentum moving forward.
