Michigan football made the final three for top-100 defensive back Makari Vickers in the 2023 recruiting class and here’s a breakdown of the recruitment.

While the Wolverines are still waiting and hoping for more good news on the recruiting trail this month, namely from four-star EDGE Enow Etta, who could commit at any time, Michigan football did get positive news with a top-100 defensive back.

Four-star Makari Vickers was one of Michigan football’s official visitors in the month of June and on Tuesday, he released a top three that not only featured the Wolverines but also Oklahoma and Alabama.

Vickers is ranked 87th overall in the 2023 recruiting class according to the On3.com consensus rankings and the recruit out of Tallahassee is ranked eighth among safeties and 19th in the state of Florida.

Florida State actually holds the current lead according to the On3 prediction machine at 27 percent, but since the Noles didn’t make the final three, it looks like he will be headed somewhere else.

According to the crystal balls at 247 sports, Oklahoma is the leader but there is just one projection at this point. Vickers took official visits to Oklahoma and Alabama as well in the month of June with the visit to Tuscaloosa being the last.

However, in what could prove to be good news for Michigan football, the Wolverines could be hosting Vickers for the recruiting BBQ later this month.

If that happens, Michigan will have hosted him as many times as the Sooners at least (Bama has hosted him four times), and depending on when he makes his decision, it could one of his final stops before making a commitment depending on his timeline.

Vickers would be a huge addition and if he’s thinking about a visit as Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider reported (subscription required), then the Wolverines at least have an opportunity to win out.

They will have to navigate NIL and in fairness, they haven’t landed a top-100 prospect in this new environment, so we’ll see what happens and keep an eye on Vickers attending the BBQ.
