Michigan football is still looking to pick up a commitment from an edge rusher and here’s the latest on a slew of top targets.

The Wolverines have started to generate some momentum on the recruiting trail with two commitments last Friday and more that should be coming as soon as this week.

Four-star offensive lineman Amir Herring is set to make an announcement on Thursday and all signs are pointing towards a commitment to Michigan football.

That would be the second four-star pickup in less than a week after the addition of Semaj Bridgeman, a four-star linebacker from Pennslyvania.

However, there are some other announcements that should be coming this month at the EDGE position. Collins Acheampong was supposed to make an announcement on July 1 but postponed it as he tries to decide between Michigan football and Miami.

The Hurricanes are on a roll right now and are also willing to do what it takes on the NIL front. So there’s definitely a concern in this one. However, EJ Holland and other recruiting experts have kept their picks on Michigan and the On3 prediction machine still gives the Wolverines a 73-percent chance to get Acheampong, who according to Holland could be deciding soon (subscription required).

None of the crystal ball projections have flipped to Miami either in regards to Acheampong, so while the confidence level in Michigan wasn’t as high as it was prior to the visit to Miami, there is reason to feel good, knowing it could still go either way.

The other top EDGE target Michigan football fans have been watching closely is Enow Etta who ranks in the top 140 according to the On3 consensus and 247 sports composite rankings.

Etta received a bunch of expert picks for Michigan after his official visit. Michigan State continues to make a push and they are more in the NIL sphere than the Wolverines right now, but again, there haven’t been any flipped picks and outside of a couple of Rivals projections for the Spartans prior to his visit to Ann Arbor, every projection is to U-M.

Projections can be wrong and Michigan football has to prove it can close with a big-time recruit in this 2023 class. It hasn’t happened yet and this would be the perfect opportunity to really add to the momentum built in the last week.

A new expert prediction for Michigan football at EDGE

Another name that has emerged for Michigan as a take in the 2023 class is Koumba Aymeric, a dynamic athlete from France who was offered by the Wolverines earlier this summer.

His On3 profile lists him at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds and he’s got freakish ability. Mike Elston has made a strong push here and with Tyler Thompson going to North Carolina last week, it opened the door for Aymeric as a guy with big upside.

Elston is known as a really good talent evaluator so even though Aymeric is unranked right now, the potential is exciting and even though it hasn’t offered, Ohio State has been monitoring him, so it’s not like the Wolverines are the only major program interested.

Colorado, UConn, and Vanderbilt have offered as of now. Aymeric also took an unofficial visit to Ole Miss, just like he did Michigan. But since the Wolverines are making a push, they appear to be the favorite and EJ Holland put in a prediction on Tuesday.

The Wolverines now have a 98-percent chance to land his commitment and if it worked out that Michigan football landed Etta, Acheampong, and Aymeric as its edge rushers in 2023, that would be a solid haul with plenty of upside for the future.
