Michigan football doesn’t appear likely to get five-star QB Dante Moore, so what’s next for the Wolverines? Here are some thoughts on QB recruiting.

There’s no way to sugarcoat it: quarterback recruiting for Michigan football hasn’t gone as expected and missing on two in-state five-star QBs isn’t a good look.

The Wolverines seemed to be a in great position to get Dante Moore after winning 12 games in 2021, beating Ohio State, and winning the Big Ten championship.

It seemed like proving they could win big was the main obstacle the Wolverines faced. At least it was until Jim Harbaugh flirted with the NFL.

Harbaugh was honest about that and maybe he thought he cleared it up by saying he was staying at Michigan for as long as it would have him, but Dante Moore clearly felt otherwise and his recruitment was never the same after that.

Now, Oregon is trending towards a commitment, and here are three thoughts on Dante Moore and QB recruiting in general as we move forward in 2023 and 2024.

Don’t quit on Dante Moore

Dante Moore is going to commit to Oregon in the next few weeks. All signs are pointing towards that and while it’s disappointing, it is what it is and at least it’s not Ohio State.

That would be an even tougher pill to swallow.

However, even if Dante commits to Oregon, there are still more than five months till signing day and the Wolverines should continue to recruit him.

Yes, other options in 2023 need to be considered. Michigan football put all its eggs in Moore’s basket so to speak and it was costly.

But look at all the additions Michigan made in 2022 down the stretch. In August, no one expected Darrius Clemons and Derrick Moore to be part of the Wolverines’ 2022 class. Yet, they were.

So a lot can change. Oregon could flop this season — you never know. But until Dante Moore is actually signed with Oregon or whoever else, Michigan should continue to recruit him.

It should also make another 2023 QB offer, which leads to our next point.
