Breaking down Michigan Football’s first commitment in 2024
Michigan football just added a four-star linebacker in the 2024 recruiting class and here’s a look at what they are getting in Mason Curtis.
Finally, Michigan football got some good news on the recruiting trail as the Wolverines picked up their first verbal commitment of the 2024 class in four-star linebacker Mason Curtis.
Curtis is an explosive basketball player that has a penchant for athletic slam dunks but the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder is ranked as the fourth-best football player in the state of Tennessee. Michigan football offered Curtis back in April and the Wolverines beat out the likes of Tennessee, Michigan State, Kentucky, South Carolina, and others for his commitment.
What the commitment means for Michigan football
Curtis spoke highly of Michigan after he received his offer and talked about taking a visit to Ann Arbor. He did that this past weekend on an unofficial visit and two days later, Michigan football has a commitment, which it sorely needed.
Curtis is a four-star prospect according to the 247 sports composite rankings (No. 204) as well as the On3 consensus rankings, which have him at No. 179 overall in the 2024 class and 16th among linebackers.
He will need to add some weight but his highlights show really good instincts plus he’s used to playing with an odd front. He shows the ability to take on blocks and make tackles, but also shows coverage ability and a good job of tackling in the open field.
It’s also a sign that while things haven’t gone as well (yet) in the 2023 recruiting class, Michigan football has some solid momentum in 2024 and is in a good spot with a number of highly-ranked recruits including five-star QB Jadyn Davis.
So even though not all the news has been encouraging lately, this is a solid get for the Wolverines, who desperately needed some positive momentum on the recruiting trail.
