Michigan Football: Reading tea leaves with top targets after Miami visits
July 1st could be a really good day for the Michigan football program as Collins Acheampong, a top defensive end target is deciding that day along with others.
Michigan football fans are probably lamenting Oregon more than any other team on the recruiting trail right now as the Ducks appear poised to land five-star QB Dante Moore from Detroit.
The Wolverines weren’t able to get Moore on campus this weekend and Oregon was. But in other recruiting news, two top-tier targets, Jaxon Howard and Collins Acheampong were visiting Miami and with the momentum the Hurricanes have right now, that is worrisome.
The latest on multiple Michigan football targets
Miami picked up the commitment of four-star QB Jaden Rashada and he got a crazy NIL deal as part of that. The Hurricanes also became the crystal ball leader in three other top-200 recruitments and are threatening to do the same with Howard who is set to announce on July 1.
Minnesota is also in the mix plus LSU. He seemed very excited about his visit to Michigan football but there haven’t been any crystal ball projections at this point for the No. 96 overall prospect in the 247 sports composite rankings.
It seems like Miami did a solid job this weekend and the Hurricanes are much farther along with NIL than Michigan, so if that’s a factor, I wouldn’t have much confidence.
While we will get a decision from Howard on July 1, Fredrick Moore and Acheampong are going to announce the same day so it would be a great chance for Michigan football to get multiple commitments.
Moore is a three-star wideout but he’s ranked in the top 500 and I believe he’s underrated. His timed speed doesn’t wow you, but some of his highlights do and he’s got football speed.
As far as Acheampong, Michigan leads according to On3 with a better than 90-percent chance to get his commitment this week. All of his crystal ball projections are predicting that too.
However, the visit to Miami this weekend scares me. I’ll be watching for any movement this week. Getting each top target is possible and at the very least, it feels like one or two commitments will be coming for Michigan football before long, especially with Amir Herring’s decision coming too.
