Michigan Football back in the driver’s seat for Amir Herring
After hosting four-star offensive lineman Amir Herring for an official visit, it looks like Michigan football is back in the lead in his recruitment.
Michigan football’s recruitment of Amir Herring has been a little curious at times, but this past weekend, the four-star recruit was on campus for an official visit, and coming out of that visit, a number of experts have projected him to commit to the Wolverines.
Of course, that’s not new. Herring has trended to Michigan football with expert projections before, although they came a lot earlier. The West Bloomfield prospect is ranked as the No. 4 player in the state of Michigan for the 2023 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and he’s ranked 284 overall.
Herring is listed at 6-foot-3, 280 pounds. At one time, there was some thought that he could be a tackle but he’s more of an interior O-line recruit now, but he’s still a solid talent.
Ron Bellamy was his former high school head coach and Michigan football has had a solid pipeline of talent coming from West Bloomfield over the years.
Michigan football needs to close with Herring
All along, it felt like Herring wanted to be at Michigan but at times, the feeling wasn’t mutual or didn’t feel that way. So Herring took an official visit to Nebraska and got some projections after that visit.
Nebraska even led according to the On3.com prediction machine. However, Sherrone Moore and the staff must have really sold him this weekend and made him feel wanted. Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports, a national analyst, flipped his pick back to Michigan.
Now, the Wolverines control all six of his crystal ball projections again and there is a decently high level of confidence (6 out of 10).
The Wolverines have a 71-percent chance according to On3’s prediction machine to win his commitment and he’s one that has been on our potential list of commits for quite a while.
Michigan really needs to close here and with a top-five player in the state, pushing for Herring should have always been a no-brainer. Hopefully, U-M doesn’t waiver anymore and is able to win his commitment despite all of that.
As of now, that seems likely.
