Michigan football revealed its Big Ten championship rings on Friday night, the same weekend as a number of top recruits are in town for official visits.

When Michigan football fans had just about given up hope of beating Ohio State, winning a Big Ten title, and making a college football playoff appearance, out of nowhere, Michigan came through and surprised everybody.

Coming off a COVID-shortened 2-4 season, expectations weren’t high at all, as most projections from the media and national outlets had Michigan football winning 7-8 games at the most, as the 2021-22 season was thought of as a “transitional” or “rebuilding” year.

The boys in blue did it though, and have high expectations again, as they look to potentially repeat and make it back to the CFP playoff.

The football team finally got their Big Ten championship rings yesterday, and I must say, they are absolutely stunning. I’m envious, and, if Michigan could somehow make replicas to sell to fans, I would buy myself one in a heartbeat.

Here it is. Like I said, they are stunning:

(My favorite part of the ring is the 42-27 score on one side).

Now, this is what you put on a ring: a big win over a rival on the road to an actual championship title and a playoff appearance. Not those rings that reward players for not making the playoff. Certain schools don’t seem to understand this concept though.

Rings are a recruiting tool for Michigan football too

You have to wonder…is it a coincidence that Michigan football chose to reveal these rings on the same weekend as “Victors” Weekend? I don’t think it is a coincidence.

Michigan needs to pull out all the stops to get these recruits to commit, and this is definitely a tactic that will help. Kudos to whoever on Michigan’s staff came up with this idea.

When one of the schools Michigan is battling for a recruit tries to hit the recruit with a “but Jim Harbaugh almost went to the NFL” or some other snarky comment, all Jim Harbaugh and/or the staff needs to show the recruit is the ring, and it will be fine.

By the way, Ohio State hasn’t beaten Michigan in 932 days and counting. Go Blue!
