Michigan Basketball is headed to the Bahamas for Thanksgiving weekend in 2023, per a report from Jon Rothstein. The Wolverines will join seven other teams.

The 2023 Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament is traditionally held over Thanksgiving weekend with a 12-game slate over three days. It will be the 12th year of the tournament in 2023.

The Wolverines will be joined by North Carolina, Villanova, Arkansas, Memphis, Oklahoma, Stanford, and Northern Iowa.

Michigan basketball last played in the Battle 4 Atlantis in 2019, when they won the tournament by beating North Carolina, Iowa State, and Gonzaga. That weekend took the Maize and Blue from unranked to a spot in the top five in a matter of a week. That was head coach Juwan Howard’s first season at the helm in Ann Arbor.

Another trip for Michigan basketball

The Maize and Blue are doing a lot of traveling over the coming seasons. They will travel to Europe this summer to scrimmage with France and Greece. In the coming regular season, Michigan will travel to London, England to play Kentucky in the Basketball Hall of Fame London Showcase.

The Wolverines aren’t just doing a lot of traveling, they’re playing in many showcases or tournaments over the next couple of seasons as well. In 2022, Michigan will play in the first-ever “Jumpman Invitational,” which will take place in December. In the invitational, Michigan will faceoff against another blue blood school, North Carolina. Oklahoma and Florida will be the other game in the tournament, which will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Michigan basketball is heading into its fourth season under Juwan Howard and they’re coming off of a Sweet Sixteen appearance. The year before that, 2021, the Wolverines won the Big Ten regular-season title and made an Elite Eight appearance.

Juwan Howard was targeted for the Los Angeles Lakers head coaching position this offseason but turned it down to stay in Ann Arbor.
