Positionless basketball

When Juwan Howard came to Michigan, one thing he talked about was positionless basketball and it’s becoming more of a thing, especially in the NBA.

Michigan hasn’t been as interchangeable, largely due to the fact that it has a traditional big man in Hunter Dickinson, but adding a guy like Emmanuel Akot is really what it’s all about.

He’s 6-foot-8 and could play the three or the four. With the way the roster is set up now, he’d likely have a great chance to start at the four. His 3-point shooting and playmaking next to Jett Howard would be exciting.

Akot would also be a key piece on defense which is another reason why he would be such a great fit for the Wolverines.

In each of his two seasons in the Mountain West, he ranked in the top 20 in defensive win shares and defensive plus/minus rating. He also was ranked in the top 20 for defensive rating.

He would give Michigan a four who could switch on wings, filling that Moussa Diabate roll to an extent, and while he’s not a high-volume shot-blocker, he was 19th in block percentage in the Mountain West two years ago.
