Michigan Basketball: Caleb Houstan moves up again in NBA mock draft
There hasn’t been word on a decision by Michigan basketball’s Caleb Houstan or Moussa Diabate but here’s the latest NBA mock draft info.
The entire NBA draft process has gone strangely for Michigan basketball players Moussa Diabate and Caleb Houstan, especially Houstan.
Houstan didn’t make an announcement that he was entering the draft. He just quietly filed the paperwork and then skipped the NBA draft combine after getting an invite.
It’s been a hard situation to read but it seems like the NBA interest is growing and in another NBA mock draft update before the NBA draft withdrawal deadline which is June 1, Houstan is now being projected by ESPN to go No. 25 overall.
It feels like a near certainty that Houstan is going to keep his name in the draft and now likely that he’s going to go in the top-40 picks, if not the first round, so whether he has a guarantee or not, I don’t think we’ll see him back in Ann Arbor.
What about Moussa Diabate?
Diabate went undrafted in this mock draft and it’s more questionable about whether he will get selected, so it makes you wonder, what are the chances he returns?
All along it felt like he was determined to keep his name in the draft but what if he’s not going to get drafted? The G-League would be a sensible option, yet, returning to Michigan and boosting his stock to the first-round range wouldn’t be that difficult.
Diabate worked out with the Atlanta Hawks yesterday, so it seems like he’s trying to gather as much information as possible. Yet, after the way he tested, his size, and all of his potential, even if he doesn’t get drafted, a team will take a chance on him.
But is Moussa willing to take a chance on that? He could stay at Michigan and also cash in on some NIL while getting pro-level instruction from Juwan Howard. So both options make sense.
The Wolverines could definitely use his rim protection and hopefully, he would be a more impactful player on both ends of the floor if he returned, although there would still be some spacing issues when he plays with Hunter since their both at their best playing the five.
I still don’t see either returning, but if I had to guess, I’d say there is a better chance with Diabate than Caleb Houstan.
