Michigan Football: More progress in effort to flip Notre Dame commitment
Michigan football sounds like it will get an official visit from four-star safety Peyton Bowen, which would be huge in the Wolverines’ efforts to flip him.
In the 2022 recruiting class, Michigan football was successfully able to flip wide receiver Amorion Walker from Notre Dame down the stretch and now the Wolverines have their sights set on flipping top-100 safety Peyton Bowen.
Bowen is one of Notre Dame’s top commitments in the 2023 class and the 6-foot, 180-pound safety is ranked 53rd overall according to the On3.com consensus rankings.
The four-star prospect committed to the Irish back on New Year’s Day but the Wolverines have been making progress recently headlined by Steve Clinkscale, the co-defensive coordinator.
We’ve been saying that the next step in the process of flipping Bowen from Notre Dame was to get him on campus for a visit and according to EJ Holland of The Wolverine (subscription required), there are tentative plans for Bowen to join Michigan’s victors weekend on June 17. This will be an official visit.
Bowen also told Holland that Clink has been “emphasizing that I’ll change my mind once I get up there.”
What the visit could mean for Michigan football with Peyton Bowen
Bowen hasn’t been on Michigan’s campus at all, so this visit will need to be the first of multiple visits if the Wolverines are going to have a real chance of flipping him.
Clinkscale has been a driving force and Jim Harbaugh has been involved too. The fact that Daxton Hill was just drafted in the first round doesn’t hurt, especially since Bowen could be used in a similar fashion, which should be another selling point.
Notre Dame has Kyle Hamilton obviously, but Bowen is probably more comparable to Hill and the ability to put players in the NFL should be a huge selling point for Michigan football.
There still isn’t much smoke about Bowen flipping but getting him on campus could set the stage for some real movement in this recruitment that favors the Wolverines.
