Michigan football has been looking to add a third running back in the 2023 recruiting class and the Wolverines are trending up with Jeremiyah Love.

One position where Michigan football has recruited really well in the 2023 class is running back and as we outlined last week, the Wolverines aren’t done at the position.

There’s a strong chance that guys like Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards will be leaving early for the NFL draft when that time comes, so adding depth is smart, especially since the Wolverines want to be a “run the damn ball” program as the T-shirt says.

While Michigan football isn’t in the pole position with one of its top targets at the position in Jayden Limar, the Wolverines are trending up with four-star running back Jeremiyah Love and he could be the next addition to the room.

Why Michigan football could become the new leader

Limar has been trending with crystal ball projections to Notre Dame football. The Irish have already added one running back to their 2023 haul and if Limar pledges to Notre Dame too, it doesn’t seem like the Irish will have room for Love who is also visiting South Bend next month.

As of now, Michigan football and Notre Dame have the two scheduled official visits. Missouri is also in the mix for the St. Louis prospect, and some others in the SEC such as Georgia are also showing some interest. He also visited Michigan and Notre Dame this spring unofficially.

The other official visits will be telling but at the moment, Michigan seems to have some momentum and according to the On3.com prediction machine, the Wolverines have a 31 percent chance of landing Love, who is ranked 216th overall and 10th among running backs according to the On3 consensus rankings, compared to Notre Dame which is sitting at 35 percent.

Missouri is at seven percent and Arkansas is at six percent. Yet, if the Irish take Limar’s commitment, Michigan should be in a strong position to close next month.

The Wolverines will host him on June 10 and if Notre Dame already has two backs in its class at that point, Michigan football will have a clear opportunity to take the lead and add one of 2023’s top running backs to its class.
