Former Michigan football star Aidan Hutchinson went to the Detroit Lions in the 2022 NFL draft but the Lions picked him so fast when it was their turn, that it upset the NFL.

It’s been known for awhile that the perfect landing spot for Michigan football‘s Aidan Hutchinson leading up to the NFL Draft had to be the Detroit Lions.

After all, Aidan was born and raised in Michigan, attending local high school Dearborn Divine Child, and went to the University of Michigan.

The thing was, fans and media members didn’t know if the Detroit Lions absolutely felt the same way. For the longest time, many mock drafts by various NFL analysts had Aidan Hutchinson going #1 to the Jacksonville Jaguars, therefore not giving Aidan Hutchinson the chance to stay home and be near his family.

Various mock drafts had the Detroit Lions selecting Kayvon Thibodeaux or Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner at #2 with the pick, or even trading down in lots of mock drafts.

It was all for naught though. Georgia’s Travon Walker had a massive ride up everyone’s mock drafts after he posted some elite scouting combine numbers, and Jags GM Trent Baalke (who, ironically was the GM in San Francisco when Harbaugh was there) made it known in the past that he loved and preferred prospects that had crazy athletic traits and insane upside over college production.

Personally, I still feel like the Jaguars should’ve just taken the sure-fire thing in Aidan Hutchinson, as when you have that high of a pick, you can’t really afford to take huge gambles like this, but the Jags did it anyways, and the rest is history.

Lions were perfect for the Michigan football star

Aidan Hutchinson got to stay home, he has a chance to become a hometown hero, and the Detroit Lions were so sure of Aidan that they called Aidan before Travon was even picked by Commissioner Goodell, and the NFL got angry at the Lions for not causing enough suspense.

Frankly, I find it hilarious that the NFL would get so mad at something as petty as this, but, hey, it’s a money league, and as the old saying goes, “time is money.” I guess the more time Detroit was on the clock, the more money the NFL would make.

If being angry over a few seconds time was the worst thing Aidan, the Hutch family, and the Lions had to deal with, I’d say it was a great day overall for all parties involved.

Also, it’s amazing than at an NFL team was so confident in a Wolverine that they’d feel the need to skip the suspense and just pull the trigger right away. Go Blue!
