Michigan Football: 3 undrafted Wolverines who can make NFL rosters
By Paul Keren
2 – Chris Hinton – New York Giants
Chris Hinton put his name into the NFL Draft and to me and many other Michigan football fans, it was a surprise. It’s not that Hinton is not talented; it just seemed too soon for the defensive lineman. Nevertheless, Hinton signed an undrafted free-agent deal with the New York Giants after the draft was finished on Saturday.
Hinton was a former 5-star recruit out of Norcross, Georgia, and started playing at Michigan in 2019. His production increased each year starting with 10 and 12 total tackles in his first two seasons to then 32 total tackles with a sack and two fumbles recovered in this past collegiate season.
I believe many Michigan fans like me were waiting on that break-out year from Hinton with 5+ sacks and maybe 50+ total tackles, but that year never came. This could have been the byproduct of being on the same defensive line as Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo. I expected the following year to be the proving point for Hinton for him to separate himself from other defensive linemen.
Hinton bet on himself and will now have to earn his spot on the New York Football Giants. He’s a very talented football player and has shown flashes of being an NFL-ready defensive anchor.
I hope he can use that talent to bring his good leverage and fill gaps for the Giants and make a roster spot.
