Five former Michigan football players went in the 2022 NFL Draft, and these guys will all likely make NFL rosters of the teams that selected them. So let’s go over the undrafted free agent deals that Michigan players have signed and the top three with the best chance to make a roster.

3 – Brad Hawkins – Atlanta Falcons

Brad Hawkins was signed by the Atlanta Falcons also after not being selected in the draft on May 1st. Hawkins was the only safety signed after the draft by the Falcons, and the Falcons did not draft any other safeties throughout the whole draft process. Atlanta has starting safties Richie Grant and Erik Harris, but behind them, Hawkins will be able to compete for those spots on the depth chart.

Hawkins played in a ton of games for the wolverines (51!) and was the note of consistency for the Michigan football defense.

Hawkins was not a flashy player for Michigan, but that is not what Atlanta is looking for out of him; they are looking for a solid safety to make the smart plays and hold down the secondary.

Hawkins recorded over 50 total tackles twice in his career with Michigan football with 53 in 2019 and 60 this past season. He also recorded two forced fumbles in 2021. One was a massive play in the Nebraska game by stripping Adrian Martinez to get Michigan the ball by recovering that fumble late in the fourth quarter.

I’m sure Atlanta saw this ability to perform late in games on his game film when studying the Michigan product.

Brad will sure have to fight for his spot in the league as the NFL is a very cut-throat league, and your job can be taken away from you in a second, but I can see him making Atlanta’s roster in the long run.
