Michigan basketball is gaining momentum with a five-star point guard in the 2023 recruiting class who has an interest in visiting the Wolverines.

There has been a lot of news surrounding Michigan basketball this week. The Wolverines learned that Hunter Dickinson would return, while Caleb Houstan and Moussa Diabate entered the NBA draft process but maintained their eligibility.

Michigan has also been active in the transfer portal as the Wolverines try to build a roster around Hunter Dickinson capable of hanging a banner next season.

However, in the midst of all of that, things are also picking up on the recruiting trail in the 2023 class. The live evaluation period opened a few weeks ago and Michigan already has a couple of top targets in 2023 set for official visits this summer.

Papa Kante, a four-star center is one of those that will visit. 6-foot-7 wing Gavin Griffiths is the other that will visit Ann Arbor.

5-star point guard talks Michigan basketball interest

But after five-star point guard Isaiah Collier did a recent interview with Joe Tipton of On3.com, it sounds like Michigan basketball might get him to campus for a visit too.

Collier put out a top-seven for his recruitment but the Wolverines, who recently did an in-home visit, are gaining ground with the five-star point guard. Alabama, Georgia, Cincinnati, Auburn, Florida State, USC, and UCLA are the other contenders.

However, when Collier was talking about visits he mentioned Michigan, in addition to USC and UCLA. He already took trips to Cincinnati and Alabama (officially) as well as Auburn (unofficially). Here’s what he told Tipton about Michigan:

"“There are definitely a lot of good guards going to Michigan right now. I like how they play and their playstyle and I’m looking forward to learning more about them.”"

Collier is ranked 18th overall according to the 0n3.com consensus rankings for the 2023 class and adds another point guard to the mix as Aden Holloway has emerged as another priority for the Wolverines, who have paid close attention to him during the evaluation period.

Juwan Howard has signed four-star point guards in the 2021 and 2022 recruiting classes but adding a five-star would be huge for the Wolverines, even though Collier is known as being a streaky shooter.
