Michigan softball wins series vs Ohio State; baseball drops heartbreaker
It’s always good to beat Ohio State and thanks to a win on Sunday by the Michigan softball team, the Wolverines won the weekend series in baseball and softball.
On Friday, the Michigan baseball team used a walk-off win to propel the Wolverines to an eventual series sweep of the Ohio State Buckeyes, despite the loss on Sunday.
This time, it was Ohio State that was able to rally from a 5-3 deficit. Michigan baseball was down to its final out on Friday and the Buckeyes were in the same situation on Sunday. They rallied and eventually won 6-5 in extra innings.
Still, Michigan won two of three games against the Buckeyes and that was on the heels of a three-game sweep of the Spartans last weekend, so all in all, Michigan has been playing some pretty good baseball.
The Wolverines are now 22-16 overall on the season, as well as 8-4 in the Big Ten. There is still plenty of work to do to get into the NCAA tournament but the last couple of weeks at least helped to build some positive momentum.
Michigan will be back in action on Friday against Purdue on the road.
More Michigan softball heroics
On Saturday, Michigan’s Taylor Bump came through with a two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Wolverines a 4-3 win over Ohio State. Then, on Sunday, Michigan was back at it, rallying from a four-run deficit to vanquish OSU again 5-4.
The Buckeyes roared out of the gates on Sunday, plating four runs in the first inning and putting the Wolverines on their heels right away. Yet, Michigan quickly tied the game and Lexie Blair later delivered a two-run double for Michigan softball, which put the Wolverines in front. She finished the game with three RBI.
Alex Storako got the win for the Wolverines and allowed four runs on six hits while striking out five. U-M is now 29-14 overall and 9-7 in the Big Ten.
