Michigan football lost a reserve defensive lineman with Jack Stewart reportedly placing his name in the transfer portal.

Attrition happens every year and no one is spared, not even defending Big Ten champions. This afternoon, backup defensive lineman Jack Stewart placed his name in the transfer portal, according to his own tweet. Stewart originally committed to Michigan as an offensive lineman, but went on to switch to the defensive side of the ball after his freshman season.

Originally out of New Canaan, Connecticut, Stewart was ranked as the forty-first offensive lineman in the class of 2019 by 247Sports. According to the official Michigan website, Stewart did not appear in any games during his time at Michigan.

Stewart is yet another defensive lineman reportedly departing the Wolverines this offseason, with starting edge rushers Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo both declaring for the NFL Draft. The Wolverines remain well stocked at the position, however, with returning starter Mazi Smith, along with some players on the edge who rotated in this past season, such as Mike Morris, Jaylen Harrell, and Taylor Upshaw.

While no destinations have been rumored, and some have even speculated his football career may not continue, a move back to the Northeast would not be surprising, especially to a potential spot like UMass, where head coach Don Brown is one of several former Wolverines assistants who have overlapped with Stewart during his time in Ann Arbor. This is merely speculative however.

Stewart joins cornerback Darion Green-Warren and linebacker Anthony Solomon and several others, including safety Jordan Morant in recent days.

We wish the best of luck to Mr. Stewart in his future endeavors, wherever those may be.
