The evaluation period is now open for recruiting and Michigan football coaches visited top 2023 commitment, Raylen Wilson, on Tuesday.

It’s an important time in recruiting for Michigan football. The Wolverines haven’t generated a ton of momentum on the trail this spring and it’s somewhat disappointing considering the way last season ended.

For a long time, Michigan football fans have thought once the Wolverines beat Ohio State and won the Big Ten, the recruiting would start going to another level and so far, it hasn’t really happened.

The Michigan recruiting BBQ will be this summer and that’s usually a key event for the Wolverines, more than their spring game and it will be vital to string together some commitments by then.

Michigan has six commitments right now in the 2023 class and the highest-ranked recruit among those is Florida linebacker, Raylen Wilson.

Wilson is 6-foot, 207 pounds, and out of Tallahassee, Florida. He’s also ranked 76th overall as well as the sixth-best linebacker in the 2023 class.

Landing Wilson over Georgia and other programs was huge for the Wolverines but after Wilson has taken visits to both UGA and Florida this spring, EJ Holland of The Wolverine indicated he isn’t feeling super optimistic (subscription required) about the pledge in his recent update.

It’s not going to be easy, especially with a new defensive coordinator, to hold the commitment but that’s why it was good to see Jesse Minter making the trip. Michigan also showed Wilson that he’s a top priority by visiting him.

When it comes to offensive line targets in the 2023 class, Cayden Green is right up there. He’s ranked 63rd overall in the 2023 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and Sherrone Moore was out to visit the 6-foot-5, 310-pounder this week.

As of now, Oklahoma has three crystal ball projections and a 97 percent chance of winning his recruitment according to the On3.com prediction machine, so it’s not looking great for the Wolverines but Moore is among their best recruiters and if anyone can turn it around, he can.
