Here’s the latest on rumors that Michigan basketball is now leading with transfer portal target Terrance Shannon from Texas Tech.

Ever since Terrance Shannon entered the transfer portal, it has felt like a perfect fit for the Michigan basketball team.

Not only do the Wolverines need a two-guard like Shannon, someone with size who can shoot the ball, but they need an upgrade on defense and Shannon answers that question too.

The 6-foot-6 wing was a former top-100 recruit and he can play both the two and the three for Michigan, with a good chance of him stepping in and starting as the off-ball guard.

While Michigan fans know that transfers are always hard to count on, especially underclassmen like Shannon who aren’t freshmen (next year will be his fourth in school) there has been some positive buzz and it was posted on Twitter on Saturday that Michigan, according to a source was the leader among Illinois and Kentucky.

The account 24/7 high school hoops cited a source for this info. Who knows how good the source is but the account also said it’s pending Shannon getting through the admissions process, which as Michigan fans know, is usually where the Wolverines lose most transfers.

It’s not because Shannon isn’t going to have good enough grades or anything like that. Michigan usually caps the number of credits a student can transfer — athlete or not — so unless players want to come so badly they will give up an academic year, U-M usually misses out.

It’s clear that Shannon has something on his mind though as he tweeted this last night.

Who knows what it means but on Friday he quote tweeted something about Jett Howard, so there definitely is a realistic chance, as long as admissions don’t get in the way.

However, we have all seen this play out too many times not to be extremely worried as a Michigan basketball fan, especially because Shannon would be such an ideal fit.
