Michigan Baseball completes sweep of Michigan State
Michigan baseball completed its three-game sweep of Michigan State on Sunday thanks to a couple of homers and some clutch pitching.
Michigan State was able to get some hits on Sunday against the Michigan baseball team. The Spartans even had more hits than the Wolverines.
But Michigan got the hits that mattered and home runs from Tito Flores and Joe Stewart led the Wolverines to a 6-3 victory over Michigan State.
It was the third straight win for the Wolverines and the second consecutive sweep of a weekend series. Michigan baseball lost to Notre Dame earlier this week but swept Cal-State Fullerton last weekend and after three straight wins over MSU, the Wolverines are 20-15 overall. as well as 6-3 in the Big Ten.
The Wolverines will have work to do if they want to make the NCAA Tournament field down the road, but beating up on the Spartans has been satisfying to watch. U-M drubbed Michigan State 18-6 on Friday, then followed it up with an 8-2 win on Saturday.
Clark Elliott sparked Michigan on Friday with a trio of homers and on Saturday, the Wolverines dominated on the mound. Sunday, was a mixture of everything as Michigan managed just five hits but scored six runs.
Chase Allen was also stellar in five innings. He allowed just two hits to Michigan State in five innings while striking out four. Jacob Denner also came on for the save in the ninth inning to put the game away.
Stewart went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. His three-run shot put Michigan up 6-0 and came on the heels of Flores’ two-run shot that helped Michigan grab a 3-0 lead in the fourth.
Michigan will play its other arch-rival next Friday as it opens a three-game series against Ohio State.
