After an 8-2 win in game two of a three-game series against Michigan State, Michigan baseball has clinched the series and can aim for a sweep on Sunday.
The offensive onslaught wasn’t quite what it was on Friday for Michigan baseball, but thanks to a stellar effort on the mound, the Wolverines cruised past Michigan State on Saturday for a second straight win.
Michigan baseball scored 18 runs on Friday night, an effort that included five home runs. Three of those came from Elliott Clark, who also had eight RBI.
However, the star of the show for the Wolverines was pitcher Cameron Weston who went seven innings and allowed just two runs, on two hits, while striking out a total of nine Spartans.

The run support also came early once again as the Wolverines plated five in the top of the first inning and opened up the scoring on a single by Jimmy Obertop.

Jack Van Remortel followed that up with a two-run double later in the inning and it was 5-0 Wolverines after the top of the first inning.

Weston started hot on the mound with three strikeouts in the first two innings. Eventually, the Spartans would plate a couple of runs, thanks to a two-out double in the sixth.
However, that was after Michigan built a 7-0 lead, thanks to run-scoring doubles from Matt Frey, who had three total on the day, and Van Remortel, who had two.
Trailing 7-2, Michigan State was able to load the bases in the bottom of the eighth but ended up stranding three runners after a strikeout.
Michigan baseball is now 19-15 on the season and 5-3 in Big Ten play. The Wolverines and Spartans will wrap up their weekend series Sunday in East Lansing when U-M will aim for the 3-0 sweep. The first pitch will go out at 1 p.m.
