Small forward: Caleb Houstan

Caleb Houstan drew a lot of criticism from Michigan basketball fans this season and some of it was due to all the hype surrounding him.

Houstan was a five-star for a reason and even though he disappointed slightly this past season, he wasn’t a major flop by any means.

The guy shot 35 percent from 3-point range for the season and while he could be subject to spells of hot and cold, he averaged two 3-pointers per game in Big Ten play and made 39 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc.

I’d take that production again. But with an offseason of gaining strength, he is a candidate to make a big jump next season, a la Nik Stauskas or Caris LeVert. College basketball takes seasoning and it’s not always easy to make a huge impact as a freshman.

Houstan had his moments and Michigan basketball doesn’t make the NCAA Tournament or the Sweet 16 without him and if he’s back, that’ll be huge for the Wolverines. He will start if so and Jett Howard can come off the bench as a freshman.
