SG: Terrence Shannon

It seems likely that Michigan basketball is going to have at least one opening on the roster, either from an NBA departure or a transfer. Hopefully, Juwan Howard and company are able to convince Kobe Bufkin to return.

With a stellar offseason, some strength, and seasoning, Bufkin could be starting next season. He was a McDonald’s All-American after all. His offense showed flashes but his defense was the biggest issue and perimeter defense is a huge question mark facing the 2022-23 roster.

If the Wolverines are limited to just one addition from the transfer portal, my preference would be to add a guard with some size who can play that shooting guard spot. That doesn’t mean that player will automatically start over Bufkin, but he needs to be pushed.

Enter Terrence Shannon of Texas Tech. He’s exactly what Michigan basketball needs and there has been some chatter about mutual interest. The problem of course is will be he able to transfer in? He’s not a freshman or a graduate transfer. So we’ll see.

The Wolverines also don’t have a scholarship available right now, however, you have a feeling the numbers will work out (they always do).

Shannon is 6-foot-6 and is a really good defender. Plus, he shot better than 35 percent from 3-point range in each of the past two seasons, while averaging over one made trey per game.

He would be a perfect fit for this roster and if there is one transfer I’d love to see Michigan basketball add above all others, he’s it.
