Projecting Michigan Football’s post-spring depth chart
Cornerback
Starters: DJ Turner, Will Johnson, Mike Sainristil; Backups: Gemon Green, Jalen Perry, Ja’Den McBurrows, German Green
Coming out of the spring, Michigan football has to really feel good about its depth chart at cornerback. Will Johnson, the five-star freshman was everything he was advertised as being and he should have a chance to start right away in the fall.
Gemon Green won’t make that easy and both guys will play. But Johnson is 6-foot-3, with elite speed and great ball skills. There just isn’t another player on the roster quite like him.
DJ Turner also played really well on Saturday and he’s going to have a breakout campaign too. By the end of the season, he will be talked about as one of the best cover corners in the Big Ten.
Steve Clinkscale has done a stellar job with this group and Mike Sainristil showed early why the coaches are so excited about his role in the secondary. He will be the starting nickel back and as a whole, it’s amazing to think how far this group has come in two years.
